Each woman’s journey to motherhood is vastly different, yet the foundations are rooted in love for all. Mothers influence many areas of our lives, in ways we often don’t realise, and as we grow older, we start realising the real impact they make.

We focus on supporting women and celebrating those who carve out their paths, so it was important to highlight mothers from various walks of life and explore their relationships with their daughters as we prepare to celebrate Mother’s Day. Each family has a phenomenal story, and we’re proud to share it with you.

A MOMENT WITH KENEILWE AND MMATHABO

The love is palpable between Keneilwe and her mom, Mmathabo. No, seriously – each interaction between the two is filled with deep care. Keneilwe works in the design industry and says her mother’s simple style has impacted her own, from the clothes she wears to the way she does her makeup and decorates her home – a mother’s influence is lifelong.

Their relationship is filled with intention and love, and it’s clear to see that they genuinely enjoy being in each other’s company. “Even today, you’re still my nana (baby)”, Mmathabo said, “I’m proud of you”. Knowing that you have the love and support from someone important in your life makes the world of difference and that unconditional support from Mmathabo drives Keneilwe to dream bigger and reach further!

A MOMENT WITH TAMI AND CHARLI

Tami lifts baby Charli in the air and both of their faces blissfully light up – it’s clear that they’re both smitten with each other. Tami’s journey to motherhood was 10 years in the making and it was not an easy one. For over a decade, Tami and her partner went through a difficult cycle of loss and heartbreak, before exploring IVF treatment that finally worked, resulting in beautiful baby Charli.

“It was a really lonely, isolating journey because you don’t really tell people that you’re going through something like this… but it’s definitely been worth the wait, I would wait another 10 years if it meant that I could have her.” Tami uses her platform to tell her story as she wants to help those struggling with infertility understand that they’re not alone and that things will always work out as they’re meant to. On motherhood, she mentions that sometimes her needs have to take a backseat to ensure Charli’s are met and that’s so indicative of a mother’s unconditional love for her children.

A MOMENT WITH TORI, MARLOWE AND LOUIS

As the family was on set, an idyllic image emerged – two toddlers, running around and exploring the world around them, as Tori sat back and admired their curiosity with pride. Raising kids can be challenging, but when seeing how she handles them with love, it became clear that one of the most important things to be aware of when moulding young minds is to just let them be free to be themselves.

In watching their interactions, it became clear that her parenting style focuses on allowing them to be themselves and not forcing them to be anything other than that. “My mom is someone that laughs very easily, she embodies warmth and trust, and that’s who she was to me when I was a little girl, and if I can be that person to my children, then I’m happy”, she says with a smile. Her mom’s parenting style has influenced her own, and in this way, that deep maternal love is passed down through the generations. To Tori, motherhood is about learning from her children as much as she teaches them – kids experience things in different, magical ways that adults tend to overlook, and there are lessons that everyone can take from them too.

A MOMENT WITH LANA AND ANTHEA

Rebuilding after loss can be one of the hardest things to do, so after the loss of her dad, Lana invited her mom, Anthea, to join her in her floristry business, and it’s been almost a decade that they’ve been creating magic together.

In doing this, they’ve found harmony and healing in creating, and their bond has grown stronger than ever. Creating beautiful bouquets for any occasion is something that Lana’s grandmother used to enjoy doing too! “There’s this thread of synchronicity that comes through”, Lana says about that – it’s almost as though her grandmother’s love for the craft has filtered down to her, and it has become an inter-generational passion that will continue for years to come. The pair have this zest for life, and working together has allowed them to explore areas of their relationship that have brought them closer together.
